Anne-Marie Soullière Appointed as a Trustee of the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Estate in Norfolk

NORFOLK —Anne-Marie Soullière, Foundation President at Fidelity Investments, has agreed to serve as one of the Trustees for the Ellen Battell Stoeckel Estate in Norfolk, Conn.  
 Soullière has served as chief executive of the Fidelity Foundations since 1987 and as a Trustee of the Fidelity Investments Charitable Gift Fund since its inception in 1991. An honors graduate of Wellesley College, she studied medieval history at the Johns Hopkins University and earned the MBA at UCLA. Her career has included posts at New England Conservatory of Music, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Yale University. She is a trustee of the Virgil Thomson Foundation, the Marlboro Music School and Festival, and the African-American Experience Fund of the National Park Foundation. She has served as a member of the Yale University Development Board and National Development Outreach Council of Wellesley College, also a member of the College's Business Leadership Council. She is an elected member of the American Antiquarian Society and Massachusetts Historical Society; also a member of the Advisory Board of the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. An advisor to the Center for Effective Philanthropy, she is also a member of the Yale University School of Music Board of Visitors and University Council Committee.
 
The Battell Stoeckel Trust was established in 1939 when Ellen Battell Stoeckel passed away. Her will stipulated that the bulk of her estate, including the property and buildings on the Green in the center of Norfolk, be held in perpetual trust "for the use, benefit and development of the School of Music of [Yale] University, and for extending said university's courses in music, art and literature."  
 
The Yale Summer School of Music was established in 1941, and the Summer School of Art in 1949.  Since that time, both programs have enjoyed extraordinary success. Renowned alumni include Frederica von Stade, Jeffrey Gilbert, Richard Stoltzman, Chuck Close, Eva Hesse and Brice Marden. The annual summer Music Festival on the Norfolk campus has become a major tourist attraction for the Northwest Corner, attracting more than 10,000 people each year. At the same time, The Yale/Norfolk School of Art has established itself as the premier summer College Fine Arts programs.
 
As specified in Mrs. Stoeckel's will, the terms of the Battell Stoeckel Trust require three Trustees: two individuals and a corporate Trustee that oversees the investments. Soullière replaces James B. Lyon, Esq. who is retiring. The corporate Trustee is Yale University, represented by Provost Peter Salovey, and the other individual Trustee is William G. Gridley, Jr.
