OLD SAYBROOK - Sharon Shannon, "a name synonymous with and entrenched in the culture and fabric of Irish Traditional Music," will appear at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, known as “the Kate,” at 8 p.m. March 3, according to a release.
Shannon's "story and her journey with her trusted accordion have led to her being one of the world’s most highly acclaimed traditional musicians," the release said. "Her personality and the profile she has brought to traditional Irish music worldwide and how broad the range and scope of this fantastic art-form can be is well accepted and documented."
She "began her recording career in 1989, working with producer John Dunford and musicians such as Adam Clayton, Mike Scott and Steve Wickham, which led to Shannon’s joining their band, The Waterboys."
Her new album “Sacred Earth” will be released on March 17.
