Arts Council of Greater New Haven is seeking proposals for community art projects

NEW HAVEN - The Arts Council of Greater New Haven is inviting artists, artist collectives and organizations to submit "project proposals for engaging the community through art," according to a release.

 

The council will select four to five creative projects to fund with small stipends of $1,000 to $2,000, the release said. Read the full RFP at newhavenarts.org

 

The council is "pleased to provide support for community projects that allow the general public to help with the creative process," the release said.

The "goal is to select ideas that will enrich the quality of community life, enhance the lives of individuals, and build connections between people through art. Last year, we funded 4 outstanding projects that allowed artists to make art with the community," the release said.

The deadline is Oct. 27, 2014, at 5p.m., the release said.

Arts Council of Greater New Haven to hold crowdsourcing discussion

The Arts Council of Greater New Haven will hold a lunch time panel discussion for people interested in learning how to use crowdsourcing platforms from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 17 at  The New Haven Institute Library, 847 Chapel St., according to a release.

"The Arts Council’s Coordinator of Community Programs, Shola Cole, has organized this panel because (relatively) new platforms like Kickstarter are amazingly effective, are getting ever-more popular, and are a great way to fund projects with a creative and community-minded approach," the release said.

The event is $15 for the public and $10 for students and Arts Council members. Attendees are welcome to bring a lunch. Refreshments and healthy snacks will be provided, the release said.

"The panel will share insights and experiences with crowdsourcing through Kickstarter, Indiegogo and GoFundMe," the release said. "Topics covered will include media format, message, identifying community need, and promoting the platform. The event will also allow for audience feedback and questions."

"The event will be moderated by New Haven-based actor, producer, writer, and social media entrepreneur, Christian Shaboo, who is currently a Dream Director with The Future Project. Panelists include Ben Berkowitz (Inside Out & ClickSeeFund), Jen Vickery (108 Monkeys & Elm City Flow), Bert Bernardi (Pantochino Productions), and others."
