Breakfast to help veterans and New Haven's Columbus House to be held at Chip's in Orange

 

 Columbus House, Inc. of New Haven and Chips Restaurant of Orange on  Friday announced that there will be a pancake breakfast at Chips to benefit homeless Veterans with 100 percent of proceeds supporting the Columbus House Homefront Initiative, according to a release.

The breakfast will be held 6 to 11 a.m. Thanksgiving morning on Nov. 28, at 321 Boston Post Road, the release said.

The pancake breakfast is $10 per person, fixed menu includes 2 buttermilk pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 bacon or sausage, coffee or tea and no registration ris equired, the release said.

"All proceeds will support the Homefront, a Columbus House initiative for homeless Veterans that includes street outreach, emergency shelter, transitional and permanent supportive housing."

Local businesses are encouraged to sponsor the annual event, the release said.

"Each year, Chips owner George Chatzopoulos and his staff choose a deserving local charity to benefit from their annual Thanksgiving Benefit Breakfast," the release said. "Suppliers, local businesses, and community friends help make this annual event a success. This year, Chips has once again chosen to support the homeless Veterans initiatives at Columbus House. In 2009 and again in 2011 the breakfast has raised over $7,000 for Columbus House."

Since 1982 Columbus House has been working with numerous city, state and federal agencies along with an entire continuum of non-profit service providers to help get people off of the streets, out of abandoned buildings, off of park benches and into the safety of a shelter. Over the years, services have expanded to include comprehensive case management as well as transitional and permanent supportive housing for homeless adults; families with children; women with mental health disorders; adults in early stages of addictions recovery, and homeless Veterans.

Musicians will 'Rock the House" in New Haven to help the homeless

NEW HAVEN  – Local non-profits have partnered with Terminal 110 and the city to "produce a marathon benefit concert to raise money for Tent City 2011 and the homeless youth shelter providers in New Haven, organizers said in a statement.


This event, dubbed Rock the House New Haven, is scheduled for 2 to 10 p.m. (or later) Sept.18, at Terminal 110, 240 Sargent Drive. The event will feature an eclectic mix of musicians, bands and vocalists from all over the Greater New Haven area, the statement said.

Tickets are $15 each and proceeds will benefit Youth Continuum and New Haven Home Recovery. Tickets can be purchased online at www.uwgnh.org/rockthehouse.
The concert is a joint effort organized and supported by numerous city-based groups: Children in Placement, Christian Community Action, the City of New Haven/Community Services Administration, The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, The Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven , New Haven Home Recovery, the NHPS/Board of Education, Life Haven, South Central Behavioral Health Network, St. Andrews Episcopal Church/Your Place Youth Center, United Way of Greater New Haven, Youth Continuum, and various local groups, the statement said.

Donation helps the homeless in Greater New Haven

NEW HAVEN - Employees of BlumShapiro recently donated $2,500 to Columbus House, which provides service and shelter for homeless people.

“We value our relationship with BlumShapiro and their employees and are very grateful for the contribution. Their continued support of Columbus House’s work is crucial as we provide hope to so many in our community,” Columbus House Development Director John Brooks said, in a statement.

The BlumShapiro employees decided to forgo their annual company celebration for the third year and instead donate funds to non-profit organizations throughout Connecticut, according to a statement.

“For nearly 30 years, Columbus House has been home to many who have experienced homelessness from throughout the region, providing shelter, support services and housing. We, like the thousands they serve every year, are extremely grateful for their invaluable services,” BlumShapiro principal Mike Hanlon said in the statement.
