NEW HAVEN — Local Irish-Americans on April 21 will commemorate the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin, Ireland.
The annual event will be followed by breakfast at the Playwright Irish Pub & Restaurant, Hamden.
The morning starts with a Mass, which will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on the Green.
Afterward, a ceremony to remember the men and women who fought for Irish independence will take place.
Local honorees will be remembered in a roll call and the original “Proclamation of Freedom” will be read.
Police and fire department Emerald societies, as well as state and local political officials may attend.

At 10:30 a.m., a full Irish breakfast will be served at the Playwright, 1232 Whitney Ave..
