Images of America exhibit being held at Gateway Community College in New Haven

Jeffrey Fletcher’s thought provoking exhibit, Images of America, will be on display in the NewAlliance Foundation Art Gallery at Gateway Community College from through April 13, according to a release.

"The collection features decades of memorabilia that reflects the African-American experience throughout American history," the release said.

The exhibit opens at 11 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday  with narrated tours every hour until 7 p.m. Tours will also run on  April 9 from 10 a.m. to noon. Mr. Fletcher will begin each tour with a brief presentation followed by a guided tour of the collection, the release said.

“The key to the future is the past,” said Fletcher, CEO of the African American Collection, also in the release. “African American history is no longer a topic of conversation in most homes, schools or churches across our country. This collection/exhibition will give everyone an opportunity to experience a powerful visual display of what motivated the trailblazers and pioneers who forged the way for equality as well as freedom for African Americans today.”

Images of America is a free exhibit and is open to the public.  There will be a closing reception from 2 to 3 p.m. April 13.  The exhibit is made possible with support from the Gateway Community College Black Student Association and the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Programs, the release said.
