Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade fundraiser coming up

The 2011 Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee will hold its annual Wine Tasting fundraiser, to benefit the 2011 Parade, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Jan. 27, at Anthony’s Ocean View, 450 Lighthouse Road.

This event “is a fun-filled evening for all -- whether it is happy hour after work, a romantic night for two, or a group of friends clinking their glasses together,” organizers said in a statement.

Each year the Wine Committee “sets a goal to recreate elegant and exciting themes to attract diverse audiences, the statement said, and the 2011 event “is fortunate to have a Morris Cove native and New Haven radio personality, Vinnie Penn, to serve” as its master of ceremonies.

A selection of wines sponsored by Gran Vin Fine Wines and an assortment of food from Anthony’s are included. Tickets are $50 per person ($45 in advance) and are available by contacting Chairwoman Briana Conway at (203) 623-7394, or email: Briway101@aol.com.

Tickets can be purchased via PayPal by logging onto the parade website: http://www.stpatricksdayparade.org/events.htm.

“As a non-profit organization, the Parade Committee is always looking for ways in which to give back to the community that supports the Parade every year,” the statement said. This year, the 3rd Annual St. Patrick’s Parade Wine Tasting will collaborate with the Connecticut organization, “Princess and the Prom” and all attendees are invited to donate a piece of formal wear to this organization, the statement said. The group has dressed more than 1,000 teenage girls in free prom dresses over the past three years. In exchange for this donation, attendees will receive complimentary raffle tickets, the statement said.
