NEW HAVEN — A veteran police detective was arrested early Wednesday evening for allegedly stealing money from the Police Department confidential informants fund.
Police Chief Francisco Ortiz Jr. confirmed Wednesday afternoon that “multiple” criminal arrest warrants had been signed by a judge against Detective Clarence Willoughby, a 24-year veteran of the department and a detective since 1991.

Ortiz said the veteran detective would be put on paid administrative leave pending a disciplinary hearing before the Board of Police Commissioners.
