Earth Day beach clean ups scheduled

NEW HAVEN — Connecticut Fund for the Environment and its program Save the Sound will cosponsor several beach cleanups and attend several other events around the state as part of its month long celebration of Earth Day, according to a statement.
The events that CFE and Save the Sound are cosponsoring and attending are:

APRIL 9: Save the Sound is partnering with students from Quinnipiac University for a coastal cleanup as part of the “Big Event,” a nationwide community service program that draws students from more than 200 colleges and universities. The cleanup is at 10 a.m. at Long Wharf Nature Preserve in New Haven.

APRIL 13: CFE/Save the Sound will honor Peter Davis, the New Haven riverkeeper, for his work over the past 25 years removing trash from New Haven’s three rivers. The event is at 5 p.m. at the New Haven Free Public Library, 133 Elm St.

APRIL 16:  CFE/Save the Sound will attend the Beardsley Zoo’s Party for the Planet Earth Day celebration. CFE/Save the Sound will join other environmentally friendly vendors to educate attendees about green living to promote a healthy way of living for both the planet and its residents. CFE/Save the Sound also will speak about its Pequonnock River Watershed Initiative and habitat restoration projects.
