NEW HAVEN – The Mary Wade Home will celebrate its 145 anniversary this year.
It was originally founded in the Fair Haven neighborhood in 1866, established as a Home for the Friendless.
Last year Mary Wade embarked upon a $11 million expansion to provide an additional 34 skilled nursing beds, substantially expanded the capacity of their Adult Day Center and renovated the existing facility.
The expansion and renovation is scheduled to be completed in June.
This is the sixth year that Mary Wade home has sponsored their largest charity event of the year by hosting an annual wine dinner fundraiser. The theme for the evening is, “An Adventure in Chile,” and features wines from Lapostolle Vineyards, Colchaqua Valley in Chile. All of the wines have been donated by Alexandra Marnier, founder of Lapostolle Vineyards, Colchaqua Valley. Alexandra is the great granddaughter of Alexender Marnier, the founder of the famous French liquor, Grand Marnier and she touts her wines from Lapostolle Vineyards as French in Essence and Chilean by birth.
The evening will take place 6 to 9:30 p.m. April 30 at the Omni Hotel New Haven at Yale. It will begin with a reception followed by a four-course gourmet meal complimented by fine wines from Lapostolle Vineyards and Grand Marnier.
The event has had Thomas Matthews, executive editor of Wine Spectator, as host for six consecutive years and serves as the premiere benefit for the Mary Wade Home.
Teresa LaBarbera from WTNH News 8 will serve as the auctioneer for a trip to Chile featuring vineyards from Lapostolle, massages and horse drawn carriage rides and additional visits to popular wineries in Chile. A silent auction will also be held over the course of the evening.
Corporate and individual sponsors include: Event Sponsors: Lapostolle Vineyards and Wine Spectator, Gold Sponsors: the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale, New Alliance Foundation and Harold Spitzer, Silver Sponsors: Bailey, Moore, Glazer, Schaefer & Proto LLP, Anquillare, Ruocco, Traester and Company, Omnicare, People’s United Bank and Murtha Cullina. Bronze Sponsors include The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, Marcum LLP, The First Church of Christ, TD Bank, Robert E. Shure Funeral Home and Raymond and Gloria Peach.
Tickets for the wine dinner are $200 per person or $2,000 per table. Sponsorship and program booklet advertising opportunities are also available, and the Mary Wade development office is happy to provide more information at (203) 562-7222 or at www.marywade.org. All proceeds from the evening benefit the aging and elderly individuals served by the Mary Wade Home.
