New Haven: Emergency meals to be served at several locations

This Friday the City of New Haven will have emergency meals available to families in need of assistance due to Storm Sandy-related damages and power outages.

Seven distribution sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The maximum number of meals available per household is four, unless additional need is demonstrated.

The distribution sites were selected based on the proximity to homes without power. The seven sites are as follows:
1. Newhallville – 596 Winchester Avenue Police Substation
2. Dwight – 150 Edgewood Avenue Police Substation
3. Hill – 410 Howard Avenue Police Substation
4. Fair Haven – Firehouse at 412 Lombard Street 5. East Shore – Firehouse at 510 Lighthouse Road 6. East Shore—Firehouse at 826 Woodward Avenue
7. Westville – Firehouse at 105 Fountain Street

“Power restoration has begun, but it could be several days before power is restored citywide. As power is restored, please make sure appliances are turned off, particularly stoves and electric heaters,” said Mayor John DeStefano Jr.
The Emergency Operations Center remains open.

The City is monitoring ongoing resident needs and will determine whether additional support and services may be needed. Residents should continue to call the Emergency Operations Center at 203-946-8221 with any storm-related concerns or questions.
