Kayaking at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven

NEW HAVEN - The New Haven Department of Parks Recreation and Trees Outdoor Adventure Program held its 3rd annual Small Craft Symposium at Lighthouse Point Park Saturday

"During this perfect day participants had a chance to learn about safety, look at the latest in kayaking and Stand Up Paddle boards (SUP), try boats in the water, and to get their safety vessel inspections by the Coast Guard auxiliary," officials said in a release.




"Event participants also had a chance to go for nature walks and tours of the Lighthouse (led) by Park Rangers," the release said.


"Some of the highlights of the event were the Kayak race and the flare demonstration lead by Timothy Mulherin form the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Milford, and the vendors and manufacturers displays from visit the displays from  The Small Boat Shop, West Marine, CT Outdoors, and LL Bean among others."


The event marks the beginning of the Outdoor Adventure Program kayaking season, the release said.
