Author and Dog at New Haven Library Sept. 26

A middle-aged, overweight, agoraphobic newspaper editor and his little dog are an unlikely pair of mountaineers.
But a close friend's death propelled the two into a journey of tribute to climb 48 of New Hampshire's White Mountain peaks — twice — in one winter.
Author Tom Ryan will describe their great adventure at 6 p.m. Sept. 26, at the New Haven Public Library, 133 Elm St., according to a statement.
Copies of his just-published book, "Following Atticus" (Harper Collins) will be available for sale and signing. And dog lovers will enjoy meeting Ryan's dog Atticus, who will be on hand to provide his own point of view about the story.
Donations will be accepted for Friends of New Haven Animal Shelter, and several dog product companies are providing free samples for attendees to take home to their pets.  For more information, visit www.atticussept26.eventbrite or call the library at 203-946-8835.
