NEW HAVEN - The city said today in a statement that due "to extreme temperatures expected for the
region on Wednesday and Thursday," Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. "has
ordered City Departments to activate cooling centers for the public to provide
relief from the heat."

"This heat wave we are going to experience poses a risk to some of New Haven's most vulnerable populations. As such, I have directed City agencies to immediately open and activate cooling centers today and tomorrow. Seniors that are having issues with the heat should contact the City or check the City website for the nearest cooling center," DeStefano said, also in the statement.
